Religious Education

INTENT

At Brookmead School our intent through our RE  teaching and learning is to help children to acquire and develop knowledge and understanding of a range of beliefs and religions and to appreciate the way that religious beliefs shape life and behaviour.  Our curriculum encourages diversity by ensuring children develop a broader world view and reflect on questions of meaning, purpose and value.

IMPLEMENTATION

Through the teaching of our curriculum, learners develop the ability to make reasoned and informed judgements about religious and moral issues which enhances their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

At Brookmead we follow the Buckinghamshire Agreed Syllabus for RE which can be downloaded below. This curriculum provides the opportunity to reflect on our experiences and explore the beliefs, values and attitudes that guide us and others through life by studying the values, practices and ways of life of the principal religions and secular philosophies. 

IMPACT:

Through our teaching and learning in RE we challenge, we inspire and we ensure children achieve: 

  • Through our R.E. curriculum, learners are able to make links between their own lives and those of others in their community and in the wider world

  • Learners develop knowledge and understanding of, and their ability to respond to, principal world religions, other religious traditions and world views

  • Learners understand and respect religions, beliefs, values and traditions and the influence of faith and belief on individuals, societies, communities and cultures

  • Learners gain skills of enquiry and response through the use of religious vocabulary, questioning and empathy.
